NCMT Limited has secured a £13.5 million funding package from NatWest comprising an £8.3 million revolving credit facility and a £4 million bond facility, alongside foreign exchange and operational support, to fund a management buyout from previous shareholders and provide financial headroom for growth. The transaction places ownership with the management team led by managing director Jonathan Smart and finance director Timothy Dooner.

NCMT Limited (Companies House no. 00794821) is a Coventry-headquartered advanced manufacturing solutions provider incorporated in 1964, and the sole UK and Ireland distributor of Okuma and Makino CNC machine tools, providing metal cutting, grinding and additive manufacturing solutions from standalone machines to complete automated production lines for aerospace, automotive, medical and advanced manufacturing customers. Estimated annual revenue stands at approximately $52.9 million (€48.4 million) in 2026.

The structural driver is the MBO's alignment of management incentives with an ambitious growth plan. NCMT intends to pursue larger and more complex contracts in the UK and overseas, invest in new technologies and expand its apprenticeship and early-career programmes — a strategy requiring working capital headroom, bonding capacity and export cycle financing simultaneously.

As finance director Dooner stated, NCMT required a banking partner that understood export cycles, bonding requirements and long-term skills investment — the specific combination that general SME banking rarely provides in a single structured package.

The bond facility is the commercially distinctive element. Machine tool distributors frequently encounter contract performance bond requirements on large multi-machine turnkey installation projects: customers require financial assurance of delivery completion before committing capital to a production line investment. A £4 million bond facility enables NCMT to bid for and win contracts at a complexity and value level its previous banking arrangements may not have supported.

For the sector, the NCMT MBO demonstrates that the UK advanced manufacturing technology supply chain contains high-quality, founder-built businesses ready for management-led ownership transition requiring specialist structured finance rather than standard SME lending.
