Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland are leading a strategic trade and investment mission to southern Germany this week to bolster economic partnerships and drive growth in high-value sectors. The delegation, led by Minister for Trade Promotion, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Niamh Smyth, is targeting Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg to enhance collaborations in construction, agri-tech, automotive, aviation, space, and life sciences.
Germany is Ireland’s third-largest export market, with Enterprise Ireland client exports reaching €2.65 billion in 2024, up 13% year-on-year. Two-way trade now exceeds €60 billion, having doubled since 2015, and Irish companies employ over 40,000 people in Germany, while German firms support almost 15,000 jobs in Ireland.
The mission has already yielded high-profile contracts and expansions. Space tech firm Réaltra secured a deal with ArianeGroup to supply on-board live video telemetry for the Ariane 6 rocket. Aviation cloud innovator AMACH partnered with flight navigation firm Jeppesen to deliver AI and cloud solutions. Combilift celebrated its 100,000th Golden Combi-CBE forklift at EuroBLECH, while Portwest and Hoffmann announced a strategic partnership for safety solutions.
Other announcements include ProSys Group collaborating with Merz Therapeutics and PPT Engineering on a pilot plant in Frankfurt, TireCheck advancing automotive sensor technology, Aerogen expanding emergency services and homecare solutions, and EASYFIX presenting its sustainable livestock slurry system at Agritechnica.
Minister Smyth highlighted that the mission demonstrates Ireland’s innovation capabilities in MedTech, space, and sustainable construction, building partnerships that create mutual growth opportunities. Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland leaders emphasised the mission as a platform to attract investment, deepen market engagement, and showcase Ireland as a prime location for innovation and expansion in Europe.
