Eric Wright Civil Engineering has delivered civil engineering, highways and public realm works at Manchester's Mayfield development. The scheme includes junction upgrades, drainage infrastructure and the transformation of Pigeon Triangle into a new public space since works began in May 2025.

Since commencing works in May 2025, Eric Wright Civil Engineering has undertaken infrastructure, highways and environmental works across the Mayfield site, near Manchester Piccadilly station. At the London Road junction, the team completed upgrades to traffic signals and junction layout, improving traffic flow and accessibility.

Deep drainage infrastructure has also been installed on the Mancunian Way slip road to support the highway network's long-term resilience. New road layouts and resurfacing works have been delivered on Baring Street, Buxton Street, Bury Street and Travis Street, alongside new pedestrian paving and CCTV infrastructure at Travis Street and Pigeon Triangle.

As part of the site's remediation programme, the project team removed redundant filling station tanks and infrastructure before carrying out environmental remediation, preparing the site for its next phase of development.

A major milestone has been the transformation of Pigeon Triangle through hard and soft landscaping works, reimagined as a new public space. At its heart sits the Intelligent Garden, an award-winning installation donated to Mayfield following its appearance at the 2025 Chelsea Flower Show, combining planting, smart technology and sustainable landscape design.

The structural driver is the engineering complexity of delivering coordinated infrastructure, highways and remediation works across a large brownfield site while public realm and landscaping phases progress in parallel. Eric Wright Group, which turns over more than £200 million, works across civil engineering and construction for public and private clients.

For the sector, the completed works mark a step forward in Mayfield's ongoing regeneration, with a public unveiling planned to mark completion of the Intelligent Garden.
