Ayesa Engineering has been awarded the prestigious Engineering Project of the Year at the Engineering Excellence Awards 2025 for its transformative work on the Arklow Wastewater Treatment Plant, a landmark project that redefines sustainable infrastructure and environmental stewardship in Ireland.

The €139 million development marks the end of decades of raw sewage discharge in Arklow, significantly improving water quality and public health while protecting the local marine ecosystem. 

Completed ahead of schedule and within budget, the facility incorporates tunnelled sewers, a 900-metre marine outfall, and an advanced gravity-fed system designed for long-term efficiency. Its rooftop solar farm, which supplies one-third of the plant’s total energy needs, underscores Ayesa’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in engineering.

Judges commended the project for its technical precision, collaborative delivery, and forward-thinking environmental design, describing it as a model for modern infrastructure that blends performance, resilience, and sustainability.

The Engineering Excellence Awards 2025 Gala, held on 23 October 2025 at the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire, celebrated the nation’s most outstanding engineering achievements across diverse sectors.
