RCSI scientists have unveiled a 3D-printed implant that delivers targeted electrical stimulation to spinal cord injuries, opening the door to functional nerve regeneration where no solution currently exists. By combining nanomaterials used initially in batteries with soft biomaterials, the implant mimics spinal tissue and boosts neural regrowth in lab tests.

This intersection of medtech, materials science, and bioengineering could reshape how industries think about regenerative devices—not only for spinal injuries, but for cardiac, orthopaedic, and neuro applications where healing can be electrically driven.
